The national bird of Latvia – white wagtail – every day can be seen on fields and close to urban areas, we know and recognise it. But have you seen this year’s Bird of Year – western yellow wagtail?? The Latvian Ornithological Society chose the western yellow wagtail as the Bird of Year 2016, because its population in Latvia since year 1995 has decreased by 95%!!!
The museum of Jaunmokas Palace invites nature observers, learners to the annual BIRD DAY on the 21 April from 10 AM. This year we will meet ornithologist Dmitrijs Boiko, who will provide us thorough information about the western yellow wagtail. Don't miss the traditional walk in the park with the “bird man” Kārlis Millers, who will show and teach how to observe birds correctly. Don't forget about appropriate clothes for the walk, and of course, you can take your binoculars. At the end of the walk you will have a chance to work with a hammer and make a birdhouse for the winged inhabitants of the park.
The Bird Day is also the finale and winner announcement of the photo contest “Winged Neighbours”. Send in your works until the 17 April.
Larger groups are invited to make a reservation until 19 April by calling +371 3107125 or +371 26187442.
