The damage caused by the storm of 29 July to the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete is even greater than initially forecast – at least 4000 trees were blown down and the tourism infrastructure was severely damaged. It is currently dangerous to be in the park, so visitors are advised to not go to the closed park.

“Having surveyed the park area, the unfortunate conclusion is that this storm has caused the worst damage in the park’s history. While last year it was mostly just trees that had fallen, this year there has been significant damage to the park’s infrastructure – the bridges, footbridges, little houses, sculptures and fences. The entire recreation area of 400 ha has suffered. During the site survey, the LVM planner found that at least 4000 trees had been damaged or had fallen. Currently, a request for a felling certificate to the State Forest Service is being prepared,” explains Kristaps Didže, LVM Recreation Manager.

The park will be closed to the public for at least another month. As the strong winds have damaged many of the trees and they can break at any time, even in windless conditions, residents are particularly advised not to go to the part of the park open to the public free of charge. It is dangerous to be in the park at the moment and will continue to be so until all the storm damage has been resolved.

The storm also caused serious damage to LVM Nature Park partners in Tērvete – the most affected location was Tērvete Tarzan Park, which was rebuilt after last year’s storm and reopened in June this year.  It is known that Tarzan will not be reopening this year.
