In the first month of the contest we have received 8 applications – 5 from LVM lakes (Kaņieris, Lielauce and Gulbju) and 3 applications from the newcomer of the contest – Lake Burtnieks. All together in May contestants have caught and released 105 carnivorous fish of different sizes and species. Application of the largest pike was received on the 11 May from Māris Poikāns, who, at the Lake Burtnieks’ “Ezerpriedes”, had caught and released a 85 cm long pike, the second largest pike (76 cm) was caught and released by “Learn and educate” lecturer Jānis Ukass, but the third was a 73 cm pike caught and released by Juris Bārtulis at the LVM Gulbju Lake. In May not only great pikes were registered but also 3 great perches – Artūrs Veidemanis, during the Mammadaba Angling Championship's competition in Lake Lielauce on 26 May, was able to measure a 42 cm long beauty, the second largest perch hooked to the author of contest “Release the Mother!” Matīss Ābiķis - 37 cm long at Lake Burtnieks. But the third largest striped one – 36 cm – was registered from LVM Lake Kaņieris. In accordance with the inner communication of “Release the Mother!”, the official fish measurement troughs and catch-and-release style was tried out by 50 different profile carnivorous fish “trainers”. Most of contestants had angled on sunny days, which is the trademark of this season, however, the largest and the most fish were caught by those, who went fishing on windy days. All fish were caught in the classic spinning technique, except for 2 applications with a big bait technique. The most popular lures – both types of metal, plastic lures and jerks – table available http://atlaidmammu.lv/rezultati

The leader of previous season in the category of total length of pikes, Juris Bārtulis, had a bit modest start on this season, in May “only” 73 cm pike from the LVM Gulbju Lake. Juris says that this season has completely different weather and water temperatures than in previous years. He thinks that pike activity in LVM will start only with the first autumnal signs

The trophy pike expert, Normunds Ikomass, says that the main conditions to get a big pike is a strong west wind and rather big size lures

P.S.: We already know that since the 6 June the 3rd season's result table has been upgraded by an impressive 110 cm application from Babīte Lake by the well-known trophy hunter Normunds Ikomass. A pike of such size can be considered a serious applicant for the Top3 of the whole 3rd season, we invite all those who have not yet participated in the contest to take part, using any angling techniques in the catch-and-release style with measurement troughs in all “Release the Mother!” collaboration lakes – Kaņieris, Babīte, Burtnieks, Lielauce, Alūksne, Gulju, Tērvete Reservoir and Seda Pond and 14 boat houses.
