Skrīveri Dendrological Park has been decorated with a fountain since its establishment at the end of the 19th century, which has become an integral part of the park's landscape. After the fountain has been renovated this spring, it will once again delight the visitors of the park.
The fountain is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The fountain is switched on during round hours and works for up to half an hour.
The Skrīveri Dendrological Park was created by Maximilian von Sivers and the front of the newly built castle was also decorated with a fountain, which was built in 1897 in the yard of the existing castle and was unique in that it originally received water from Kalnamuiža Lake through wood-carved pipes.
Skrīveri Dendrological Park, where unique foreign tree plantations grow, has been managed by JSC Latvia’s State Forest since 1999, performing maintenance and development works. The fountain was renovated for the first time by order of Latvia’s State Forest in 2007. At that time, during the construction of the object, the shape of the pool was preserved and the central part of the fountain was equipped with a decorative element, as well as an underground pump room was created to accommodate the equipment serving the fountain. This spring, the waterproofing and resurfacing of the fountain basin was carried out.
The area of Skrīveri Dendrological Park is 16.9 ha and, according to the inventory of trees and shrubs carried out in 2014, there are 248 taxa, including native species. The park is worth visiting at any time of the year, but the park is most beautiful in spring and summer, as well as in autumn, during the colouring of the leaves. In the Skrīveri dendrological park, visitors will definitely be surprised by the sugar maple, clematis alpina, bitternut hickory and flaky hickory and other unusual plants.
Skrīveri Dendrological Park is open to visitors 24 hours a day and admission is free.
