Spring is the most active time in nature, as well in water reservoirs, where the common toad (Bufo bufo) returns to its native water to spawn.
The first to arrive at the spawning grounds are males, which are much smaller than females. Males call the females by croaking and by the croaking the female can determine the size and strength of the male.
Toads are characterized by fights between several males around one female, forming a ball of several toads until the fight is over and the winner is left with the female.
The spawning of the common frog (Rana temporaria L.) has already ended, and clouds of its eggs are visible in the water, but the eggs of the common toad in black strings of pearls will be laid next to them by the beginning of May.
