To spend an exciting day together, 100 children from all Latvia met on the 20 April in the finals of Forest Olympics 2016 in the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete. Not stopped by the cold wind and hail, kids showed that they are the best from those 140 schools that participated in the Forest Olympics this year.
During the day, children needed to go through 30 different control points that were located all over the territory of park, and also show a performance about a theme friendship, including other participants in it and various objects that are related to forest. Did you know that there are wood components in a vanilla ice-cream?
Only one team can be champions in the finals, and in a tough competition those were the students of Jelgava Spīdola Gymnasium. The special green coloured hair and the energetically vibrant team spirit must have helped them! They will need it when they will receive the main prize from the LVM – in July they will go on a nature expedition in the Austrian Alps!
The honourable second place and a Tallink gift card for a sea cruise to Stockholm were received by the team of Aizupe Elementary School. The third place was won by the team of Zvejniekciems Secondary School, to whom the LVM gave a prize of Latvian forests’ expedition “In forester’s footsteps”.
Other schools also were on a level of champions and received diplomas of appreciation and gift cards to return with the classmates to the LVM Nature Park in Tērvete once more and without any rush explore and walk those trails that have not been covered during the finals. The diplomas were received by teams from Vecumnieki Secondary School, Rēzekne Catholic Secondary School, Nīkrāce Elementary School, Rīga Rīnūži Secondary School, Krāslava Elementary School, Tīnūžu Elementary School and Jelgava 2nd Elementary School.
The LVM congratulates all the finalists of the Forest Olympics once more and wishes to keep the friendly spirit of competition for the remaining school years!
